The Magic of Paul Thorn

If you have been anywhere around me you would have heard me talk about my good friend and awesome singer/songwriter Paul Thorn.
I met Paul more than 10 years ago when I was on The Gary Burbank Show in Cincinnati, OH. I used to be Gary’s “Bobo” for a segment called “Sports or Consequences”. When i was driving in and listening to the show I heard Paul tell his semi-woeful tale of doing battle with no other than Roberto “Hands of Stone” Duran. For you young fucker’s out there, Duran was without a doubt the toughest fighter to ever grace the “squared circle”.
Paul’s tale definitely perked my ears up and when I arrived at 700 WLW’s studios he was still there and we got to talking about his boxing career and he invited me to his show at the Old Jack Quinn’s in Covington, KY. I really didn’t know what to expect…a former pro boxer turned singer/songwriter…you have to be kidding me…
When I got to the venue I was amazed that the place was sold out and I was glad I was on the Guest list. He had already started his set, leave it to me to never get anywhere when the show starts, but when I entered the room I was nothing short of amazed.
This former pugilist turned singer/songwriter was just the opposite. He must have been a singer/songwriter first and then decided to get his head punched in…because he was awesome. His sense of humor on stage is fuckin’ hilarious and he knows how to tell great stories to help segway into his songs. It was a night that I couldn’t forget even if someone hit me over the head with a sledgehammer and I had amnesia. I became a fan that night.
Since then Paul and I have shared many a meal either at a restaurant like Trattoria Roma on Main Street, Downtown Cincinnati or home cooked buy yours truly.
Paul and I share a very common problem when it comes to what both of us do…we are great at what we do but no one knows how to package us and sell it. The only way to really understand what we do is to experience us…and that’s exactly what I want you to do. Go to http://paulthorn.com and find out when he’s coming to your town and be the first in line to experience a night with Paul Thorn and his incredible band of Jeffrey Perkins (Drums and another good friend) John Hinds (Guitar), Dr. Love (Keyboards) and Doug Kahan (Bass Guitar)
If you miss Paul and his band you are doing a huge disservice to your ears. Here’s a video of his “Title Track” from “Along Way From Tupelo” as heard on the Conan O’Brien Show.
…and another from “Mission Temple Fire Works Stand”
